    Workday Saturday, July 11th, 2026 – 8:30-noon!

    Hey Friends!

At the end of June, stewards made one last pass on the white sweet clover dotting the western sand prairie, touched up suckering girdled trees, and treated woody re-sprouts in the kickoff area. A foggy and balmy early morning gave way to a sunny and toasty conclusion of a wonderfully productive day.

This Saturday, from 8:30am to noon, we’re looking at temperatures in the 70s, peeking into the low 80s. We can continue to monitor the ripeness of prairie seeds to collect, start setting back the sumac clone spreading on the prairie, and if the weather permits, continue treating woody invaders in the kickoff area.

What other priorities might we discover? Join in to think and plan together. Many leaders make this possible.

    See ya out there! 🌻

Sunday June 28, 2026: Woodies, Weeds, Seeds Work Day

    Happy post-solstice all!

Last weekend stewards joined together for a balmy morning of pulling invasive sweet clover and collecting precious sand coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) seeds for restoring prairie turf in the recently cleared area. After sharing snacks, we joined the annual Revis butterfly survey led by INPC field rep Angella Moorehouse.

This week on Sunday, June 28th from 8:30-noon, the stewardship goals look much the same: there’s more sweet clover further north in the unit, and still plenty of seeds to collect. In addition to the coreopsis, others like scurfy pea (Psoralidium tenuiflorum) may be approaching ripeness (join in to find out!). The area of cleared canopy still has brushy re-sprouts in the understory, and effort to control those will make the difference in restoring prairie biodiversity.

As the summer heats up, we may want to plan to prep the burn breaks in the forgiving shade of the woods.

Join in this weekend to learn, work, and plan together. Nature needs you!

Revis Prairie Work Day May 24, 2026

Join in on Sunday, May 24th from 8:30 to noon! This week may offer our last best chance to girdle shady young trees encroaching on the remnant prairie (BYO hammer). Mild temperatures and winds will also offer a chance to treat woody re-sprouts, and we can see if any early-spring blooming species are ready for seed collecting. We can also look ahead to the coming summer, when our priorities may shift to species like sweet clover, sumac, tall goldenrod, and more.
